With over 20 years in recruitment, I’ve interviewed countless candidates and it’s l clear who’s truly prepared or not.
Why is preparation so essential for job interviews?
It shows interviewers that you’re serious about the opportunity, that you value the process, and it equips you with confidence and clarity to be the best version of yourself.
If you’re ready to take your interview prep to the next level, here are some tips:
Research the Company Thoroughly
Go beyond the basics. Explore the company website, learn about their products/services, target audience, competitors, and goals. Look at their annual report if possible.
This background will help you to align your responses with their business context. LinkedIn and recent company news are also excellent resources.
Understand Your Interviewer’s Background
If possible, research the person interviewing you—often your potential manager. Consider their experience and how they’ve progressed in their career. This research can shape the questions you want to ask about their leadership style. They also may be connected to someone you know, so you can do some digging beforehand 😊
Look at Current and Former Employees
Check LinkedIn to see who works there now and who has left recently. A company with long-tenured employees and internal promotions often signals a supportive culture, while high turnover might raise questions.
𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Read it, then read it again. Then go through the job description with a highlighter and highlight key word responsibilities and requirements.
Tailor your answers to these areas will show you understand what’s required for success in the role.

Your CV is your story—make sure it’s one you can speak to confidently. Consistency between your CV and interview responses reinforces credibility. (𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽, 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗩 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗖𝗩 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿)
Practice Common Interview Questions
Anticipating questions and considering your responses helps you avoid feeling caught off guard. Practicing ahead of time allows you to present your best self with more clarity and focus.
Prepare Thoughtful Questions for Your Interviewer
Instead of asking about salary or benefits right away, focus on learning about the role, the company culture, and team dynamics.
Preparing thoroughly for an interview not only enhances your confidence but also demonstrates your commitment and professionalism. Best of luck!
